Who gets subsidy more URBAN OR RURAL?

Subsidy in general are provided to weaker sections with an aim make them at with others as far as sharing of infrastructure or facilities provided by government. It is believed that various subsidies on offer are helping in developing downtrodden or the people who are unable to afford basic amenities on their own.

I feel that in country like India subsidies are helping more urban population as compared to rural population. Where as population residing in towns or bigger cities is sharing a great part of this initiative taken on the part of government and the rural population is getting their share of subsidies in various forms but still they are lagging behind. The main reason for this is that they lack chances of availing these subsidies.

Our urban get direct or indirect subsidy in form of petrol subsidy, cooking gas cylinders, roads, drinking water, hospitals for medical services, good education system in form of well available schools, colleges and institutions for higher education. Though they can afford to pay more and share government’s burden, they get maximum benefit out of these subsidies.

On the other hand rural people are given subsidy in form of rate cuts for diesel and electricity. But the irony is the fact that numbers of people using these services are very less. There are negligible schools, colleges, hospitals for rural people so aid given to these institutions is not reaching to the real ones. Even the diesel and electricity is available in very few locations and population availing benefits is very small.

The only good benefit that rural population get is LOAN WAIVER by government even that is not very healthy way to help poor population rather we should prepare a base where all can participate at par in getting government aid.
